Crepey Skin? You’re not alone.

Wrinkles are ruthless. They can materialize on any part of the body as we increase in age. We refer to them as “crow’s feet” when they appear around the outer eye, or as “fine lines” around the mouth. “Bunny lines”, “marionette lines”, or even “11’s” are a few more funny names that are used to describe what happens when our skin begins to lose its elasticity and those pesky creases begin to pop up around our face, neck and body. But no matter what the name, wrinkled skin is no laughing matter when it comes to optimizing the youthful, healthy appearance of our epidermis.
What is Crepey Skin?
“Crepey” skin is another wrinkle word that specifically describes thin and finely creased skin that looks like crepe paper. This skin most often appears on our body in places such as the upper arms, knees, décolleté, and the backs of the hands. It may also feel loose or begin to sag. It tends to impact larger parts of the body and therefore, requires a specialized treatment to properly address it.
What Causes Crepey Skin?
Of course, age is a major factor when it comes to crepey skin. As we age, our production of collagen and elastin naturally declines and with it, the skin’s ability to build the architectural support it needs to stay firm. Stress, smoking, and other stressor’s can also accelerate the aging process leading to premature laxity and wrinkles.
Sun damage is another main culprit as UV light (and blue light from our electronics!) damages collagen and elastin fibers and once broken, the skin can thin, loosen, and eventually crease. Sun also zaps moisture from the skin and dehydrated skin can turn crepey and requires quenching as quickly as possible. Florida summers with longer days, stronger rays, and an intense heat index can be a particularly tricky time to keep crepe at bay!
Is There a Solution?
Staying hydrated and sheltered from the sun is a great way to protect skin. Colorful fruits and vegetables high in water content and Vitamin C support the body’s production of collagen and elastin so it’s possible to plump skin from the inside out. Another holistic approach to keep skin smooth is exercise. Exercise not only reduces stress, but it also increases “youth hormones” by up to 771% after just one 20 minute session. These hormones increase the antioxidant level in the body protecting it from the effects of premature aging.
And hand-in-hand with an internal approach should be an external solution to quickly reduce crepiness. Our latest innovation, Crepe Doctor, was formulated for this specific skin challenge. This deeply hydrating yet light, nutrient-rich formula helps to visibly repair and condition the appearance of dry, aging, crepey skin using tightening and firming ingredients. Volufiline™ (Zhi Mu Root extract) in addition to Sesame Seed extract stimulate adipocytes encouraging and increasing skin density and lipid storage so a youthful volume can be maintained. Sacha Inchi oil, from the seeds of an exotic star-shaped fruit, contains a very high amount of omega-3 fatty acids that help firm skin and delay the signs of aging. Vitamin E mends chapped skin while Ceramides restore the skin’s natural barrier locking in moisture while keeping irritants out.
