The Real Power of Skin-Penetrating HAs in Your Cosmetic Products
- Posted on: Oct 26 2018
As a skincare specialist, one of the things that drive me nuts about most cosmetic products on store shelves is the jargon. Often, the marketing department of cosmetic companies slaps technical words on the side of boxes in hopes that people will be impressed and buy them. And, truth be told, this often works, resulting in consumers all over the world taking home sub-standard skincare products instead of the products that their skin needs to stay healthy and youthful-looking.
One very impressive-sounding ingredient that you see on cosmetics everywhere is hyaluronic acid or HA. But what exactly are HAs, and why are they so darn good for your skin?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body. One of its primary jobs is to retain moisture, and as a single molecule can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. This keeps your skin looking and feeling healthy, youthful and moisturized.
As we get older, our bodies start to produce less HA, leaving our skin drier and duller. Without adequate levels of hyaluronic acid, our bodies can’t retain moisture – resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness. By including HAs in skincare products, we can replace the naturally occurring HAs and help rehydrate the skin.
Skin Care Products with HA
At Azul SkinHealth, we offer many different products that include HAs, each focusing on a different skincare concern.
- HA Serum with Peptides
One of our most lightweight moisturizers, our HA Serum with Peptides does more than just replenish your skin’s supply of HAs. The peptides help to boost your collagen production (another thing that naturally slows with age), to keep your skin smooth and line-free. This moisturizer also includes vitamin B and niacinamide to help revitalize the skin. It’s a perfect moisturizer for all skin types, as it is oil- and fragrance-free and non-comedogenic. - Azul Intensive Renewal Serum
This is one of our most advanced products, packed with cutting-edge cosmetic ingredients, including HAs, that will help renew your skin! The Intensive Renewal Serum includes five different growth factors that stimulate cellular growth and renewal in the skin. There are multiple peptides included boosting collagen production. HAs are at the heart of the Intensive Renewal Serum, though. Sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, helps to keep your skin plump and moisturized, while also giving the serum an elegant feel. You can use this serum after any cleanser, toner or mask, making it a perfect augmentation to your daily skincare routine. - Green Tea Moisturizer
Green tea is not only a delicious and refreshing hot beverage, it’s also fantastic for your skin! Green tea extract has anti-inflammatory properties and is an antioxidant, plus it protects your skin from UV rays. The green tea extract is combined with aloe to soothe the skin, plus oil to act as a barrier against moisture loss, and, of course, HAs to keep you hydrated! - Vita C Emulsion with A&E
Turns out that your skin needs its daily vitamins, just like you! Our Vita C Emulsion contains vitamins C, E, and A to act as antioxidants, enhance cellular renewal, soothe inflammation and strengthen collagen. It also includes HAs to help keep your skin plump and well-hydrated. Add to that sunflower seed oil to replenish the skin with nourishing fatty and amino acids, and you have one potent skincare product!
Understanding Ingredients
At Azul SkinHealth, we see “buzzwords” and jargon slightly differently than many cosmetic companies. Instead of merely putting them on the sides of boxes, hoping to impress with big words, we like to educate our customers about what these ingredients do and, most importantly, why they work. We are such firm believers in the power of HAs that we actually incorporate them into many of the treatments that we offer at Azul’s Medical Spa.
It’s important to us that our patients and customers know exactly what they are putting on their skin, which is why we have every ingredient in each product listed right on our website, along with a description of exactly why the skincare wizards at Trilogy Laboratories included them.
The reason Azul has a skincare line of products at all is that years and ago, Dr. Flaharty was frustrated at the quality of skincare products available. He wanted to offer his own, so he and Dr. Kristen Flaharty, his wife, started Trilogy Laboratories. Together, they’ve built it into a powerhouse boutique cosmetics firm that not only offers cutting-edge products but also educates customers about why they work.
